JOE CORBI PRODUCTS will be delivered this week so that you can deliver them to your customers. You may pick the items up on THURSDAY after school. Can you count all of your blessings? JOE CORBI'S . . . ORDERS DUE! So. . . have you been busy selling some Joe Corbi products? All orders are due by November 9th to your homeroom teacher. Yes. . . that is this MONDAY! Each kit you sell will generate $4.00 towards the cost of our upcoming environmental education trip. ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS! All assessments will be completed this week! All work is due this week! So. . .let's reflect on 1st quarter and get ready to start 2nd quarter! The 1st quarter officially ends this Thursday. . . you do not come to school on Friday! Celebrate the end of the quarter! END OF QUARTER ASSESSMENTS Students will be taking end-of-quarter Math assessments soon in many of their classes. The Mathematics assessment will be given on November 2nd and November 3rd. Students should begin reviewing for the upcoming cumulative countywide tests. PROGRESS REPORT TIME We are nearing the middle of the 1st quarter of this school year. School personnel will be printing out hard copies of your student's grades this week. The hard copy "progress report" will be sent home on Friday, October 9, 2009. Please realize that this represents a specific "snapshot" of your child's progress. Final grades in each subject area will not be determined until the end of the quarter. Teachers continue to add grades to the "live" and ever-changing online posting of grades that is available to you through TeacherEase. Please discuss all grades, progress, and any pertinent missing assignments with your child. Thanks! Mrs. Crandall BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT Is your calendar marked for the BACK-TO-SCHOOL night meeting on Monday September 21st from 7:00-9:00 pm? So. . . did you pause today 3 14 at 1:59 to recite 3.1415926535. . . MARCH 11, 2009 IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL STUDENTS/PARENTS! The MSA's (Maryland State Assessments) begin next week! MATHEMATICS-Tuesday and Wednesday, March 17th and 18th READING-Tuesday and Wednesday, March 24th and 25th The Grand Slam Mathematics Review booklets are serving as a practice and review for these upcoming tests. We have been completing portions of the booklets together in class and reviewing the concepts. All students have been assigned to complete the PRACTICE MSA TEST #1 in the end of the booklet. We will check the answers in class and review any questions necessary. STUDENTS ARE ALLOWED AND ENCOURAGED to complete ANY and/or ALL of the other lessons/sections in the booklet. Parents are allowed and encouraged to assist in directing students to use this tool to help review. (There is a review/helping page available for each lesson with hints and refresher concepts) It is our hope that these practice booklets will refresh and review concepts learned this year as well as in past school years. The 6th grade MSA test is cumulative and will include topics/skills learned in previous math experiences. Thank you for your support. Also, please be aware that NO CELL PHONES are allowed in the classroom. . . especially during the Administration of the MSA's. CELL PHONES are absolutely restricted from any testing situation. Harper's Choice allows students to bring cell phones to school and leave them in their lockers during the day. . . then pick them up again at dismissal for use to and from school. They are NOT ALLOWED to be used during the school day. Mrs. Crandall March 5, 2009 INTERIM PROGRESS REPORTS. . . will be distributed this Friday. Please review with your parents and have parents sign the envelope signifying that they saw and reviewed your 3rd quarter "snapshot" of grades. Return the signed envelope on Monday, March 9th. ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION. . .3rd quarter installment payments are due by March 13th. Some students will be receiving reminder notices regarding the upcoming payments due. Thanks to all parents who have arranged to chaperone! Feb. 23, 2009 THIS WEEK IS CONFERENCE WEEK! We have 2 full days of school. . . and 2 half days of school. We will be dismissed early from school on Monday, Nov. 24th and Tuesday, Nov. 25th in order for teachers to meet with parents in the afternoon. Conference times are also available during the evening hours of both days. If you haven't already scheduled a conference and would like to do so, please send in the conference request form which may be found attached to the most recent Cougar Newsletter or in the report card envelope. You may also use the Pickatime.com website to schedule a conference. If for some reason all of the conference slots are booked and you would still like to schedule a conference with me, please do not hesitate to e-mail me, and I would be happy to set up a conference outside of the conference window time frame. Quarter 1 report cards will be distributed this week on Thursday. Please show and discuss the report cards with your parents. Parents should sign the envelope provided and return to the homeroom teacher to signify that the report card was viewed and discussed. DISTINGUISHED STUDENT ASSEMBLY! Also, in celebration of 6th grade distinguished students during the 1st quarter, the sixth grade will have a special DISTINGUISHED STUDENT ASSEMBLY this Friday, November 14th at 11:45 am in the gym. Please make sure that your Math spiral has enough pages to start 2nd quarter. We will be setting up the spirals for a "fresh" start so make sure that you bring them to class. Also, please make sure that your supplies have been replenished. . .glue sticks, fresh sharpened pencils, and notebook paper. If you have extras in your locker, make sure that you bring these supplies to math class daily! Week of October 27, 2008 All assessments will be completed this week! All work is due this week! So. . .let's reflect on 1st quarter and get ready to start 2nd quarter! October 20, 2008 The end of the quarter is a l m o s t here! The last class day of the 1st quarter is actually October 31st! So. . . it is time for us to show what we know by studying and performing well on the end-of-quarter assessments. Assessments begin this week. . . so study hard, ask questions, and do your best work! October 10, 2008 The 6th grade team has decided on the following schedule for the upcoming end-of-quarter assessments. (Students may have assessments in 2-3 content areas each day based on this schedule.) Oct 22, 23, 24, 27 Math and English Oct 28, 29 Science and Social Studies Oct 30 and 31 Make-ups or completions in any content area Students should plan study days in accordance with this schedule. The score on the mathematics assessment is used in figuring the final quarterly grade in mathematics. September 29, 2008 It was really great to see so many parents able to attend our HCMS Back-to-School night last week. Thanks for taking an active role in your child's education! If you were not able to attend Back-to-School night and would like a copy of the newsletter explaining more detail about your child's math class for this year, please let me know and I will send home a copy with your child. It is hard to believe, but the middle of the 1st quarter is here, so you will be receiving an Interim Progress report this Thursday. Please review this with your child, sign the envelope, and return the envelope only to your child's homeroom teacher. (We continue to use that same envelope as a covering and communication tool for the reminder of the interim progress reports as well as the quarterly report cards.) Welcome October! While it is not a time to receive feedback about a student's progress, it is a great time to hear from all of the teachers and follow your son/daughter's schedule.
