| Here is a summary of what we currently are doing and where we are
soon heading:
11 GT:
Students have finished reading & discussing Sue Monk Kidd's novel,The
Secret Life of Bees. They have used the novel to examine sentence
structure as we completed a four week Creative Writing Unit.
Students utilized what they learned in this unit to revise their college
admission essays that they wrote in the Fall. These essays have been
submitted, and students should get them back shortly. Currently, sutents are
reading The Great Gatsby and learning about his time period in history.
Grammar: Students are
working on participles, appositives, and other parts of speech as they
relate to writing.
12 H: Students have finished reading Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and
have discussed the real-life implications of genetic engineering. They
submitted an essay about one of the chapters in the book. One of
the main topics we discussed and analyzed was the positive and negative
ramifications of knowledge aquisition. Grammar: Students have
been studying semi-colons and just took a test on them. They will now be
held accountable for correct usage of semi-colons in their writing.
Currently, students are reviewing for material for their final exam.
12 S: Students have just finished reading Lord of the Flies. They are
discussing the pros and cons of the popular social theory at the time
Golding wrote the book: The Theory of Natural Goodness. Students
seemed to have enjoyed the book! We are reviewing material for the final.
Grammar: Students have been working on the
correct placement of commas in writing.
