A SAT mock test will be administered on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 8:00 a.m. at Wilde Lake High School. The fee for the mock test will be $10 (cash). Students who are registering outside of Wilde Lake should report by 7:30 a.m. to register the day of the test. There will be no refunds for those students who miss the test. The test is open to the first 100 students who register.

Mix-It Up @ Lunch Day- Tuesday, November 10th
Students will participate in an activity during all lunches. They will be invited to sit at a new table, and make a new friend. The cafeteria will be "dressed up", we will have trivia on the tables, and we will have music playing throughout the lunch shifts. Teachers will be invited to participate in the event by eating their lunch with the students. The goal of mix it up at lunch is to promote tolerance, inclusivity and kindness. QUESTIONS? COLLEGE ACCESS & SUCCESS COURSE (STUDENT TRACK)Are the schools you are considering a good fit for you? Do you have a realistic chance of being accepted? Where can you find the money to pay for school?
Increase your understanding of the college admissions process by attending LIFT's three-week course. Learn what characteristics to look for when selecting an institution; identify academic and career opportunities; ways to become a stronger candidate and how to pay for college. This course is open to students in grades 10 through 12.
Course Dates:
November 7th- 21st (9am - 12:30pm)
Registration Fee: $250
COLLEGE ACCESS & SUCCESS WORKSHOP (PARENT TRACK)Parents often worry more about getting into college than their children. You want to know, "Is my child doing enough?" "How can I best support my child through the process?" LIFT offers three separate opportunities for parents to attend workshops specifically geared to what you, as a parent, are concerned about the most.
Course Dates:
- November 7 (9am - 12:30pm)- Demystifying the College Selection and Application Process. Learn about the college search and application process and timeline.
- November 14 (9am - 12:30pm)- How to Pay for College Become acquainted with the financial aid process and how to locate money for college.
- November 21 (9am - 12:30pm)- Parent Survival: Dealing with the anxieties of the college admissions process. What role should you play in the college admissions process? How can you effectively support your child in coping with the stress and pressures of the college admissions process.
Registration Cost: $80 per workshop
Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. For best consideration, please submit registration form at least one week prior to the start of the course/workshop.

October 14- PSAT @ Howard High School, 720am
All 10th and 11th grade students will take the PSAT.
If your 9th grade student paid for the test they too will take the PSAT on Wednesday.
Seniors will participate in SR. LION WORKSHOPS all morning.
October 31- Annual Black College Expo at the University of Maryland, College Park in the Reckford Armory. Students will benefit from colleges and universities, including Historically Black Colleges in attendance and the free knowledgeable seminars.
This exciting event will give students the opportunity to:
- Get accepted to a college
- Receive on the spot scholarships (Seniors should bring multiple copies of their high school transcripts & SAT/ACT scores.)
- Receive knowledge about internships and career placement.
How to earn money while attending college
A number of the colleges will accept on the spot admission and/or others will waive the application fee. Juniors are also encouraged to bring their transcripts and scores as well.
Throughout the day students will not only expand their horizons in education and its benefits, but thanks to our wonderful sponsors their will be an exciting step show, dance competition and lots more fun and entertainment which the audience can participate in!

Learn about the necessary details required when completing a college application and explore possible next paths with an interactive workshop using the Choices website. Need Algebra 1 Help???
Beginning Tuesday, September 15, 2009, the Math Department at Howard High School will offer Algebra I help during all four lunch shifts. The sessions will take place during each lunch shift on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Room N226. The purpose of these sessions will be to assist students with daily assignments, review for upcoming quizzes and/or tests, and provide on-going preparation for the High School Assessment that every Algebra I student will take in May, 2010.
Students will obtain a pass for participation from their current Algebra I teacher and will be expected to work while eating lunch.
Information will be sent home with the students during the week of September 7, 2009.
