College Application Process

Procedures for Turning in College Applications

In order for guidance to process the hundreds of college application(s) quickly and efficiently, seniors need to follow the procedure below:

  1. Below is a list of all the necessary materials students shall gather together:
  • release of records form signed by parent (only necessary 1X each year at 1st request)
  • completed application (except for part to be complete by counselor) UNLESS application is completed online.=
  • all necessary recommendations (except for counselor’s)
  • application fee (check)
  • $4.00 per transcript fee (cash or check made out to Howard High School); additional charge for last minute transcript requests!
  • resume (if needed)
  • an addressed stamped envelope to the college admissions office (w/correct postage/usually 2-3 stamps)

  1. HAND DELIVER THE ENTIRE PACKET to the student’s assigned 12th grade counselor. Please DO NOT leave any materials on the counselor’s desk or message clip.  They will be returned to the student.

TURN IN YOUR COLLEGE APPLICATIONS TO BE PROCESSED ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE ALL OF THE REQUIRED MATERIALS TOGETHER (see above).

Allow 2 weeks for the application to be processed and mailed from Howard High School. Please keep in mind as you plan ahead, Mrs. Bornstein, Mr. Glenn, Mrs. Hildreth and Mrs. Sutter are NOT available over the Winter break to work on college applications that may be due January 1. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS!

All college requests must be in no later than December 12th, if the application has a January 1st due date. We prefer to mail applications from the school, where we maintain a file indicating the date and to what colleges applications were mailed.

**Weighted and unweighted GPA and Rank will be listed on your transcript when they are mailed.

FYI- SAT scores are no longer listed on transcripts. Students must have their scores send directly from college board (collegeboard.com) to the colleges(s) of their choice.

Colleges will be looking out for your grades so please continue your hard work. You are almost at the finish line!

Please contact Guidance if you have any questions.
