AP ScienceCourse: AP Biology Grades: 11,12 Prerequisites: grade of B or better in Biology; completion of Chemistry This course builds on the foundations of Biology and is designed to be the equivalent of a college-level introductory biology course. The course covers three general areas: molecules and cells, genetics and evolution, and organisms and populations. Descriptive and experimental laboratory investigations will emphasize detailed observation, data recording, data interpretation, and statistical analysis. Students enrolled in the course are expected to take the Advanced Placement examination in Biology. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Course: AP Chemistry Grades: 11, 12 Prerequisites: grade of B or better in GT Chemistry or grade of B or better in Chemistry with teacher recommendation This course builds on the foundations of Chemistry and is designed to be the equivalent of a college-level introductory chemistry course. The course covers the structure of matter, the kinetic theory of gases, chemical equilibrium and kinetics, and thermodynamics. Descriptive and experimental laboratory investigations will emphasize detailed observation, data recording, data interpretation, statistical analysis, and higher order thinking. Students enrolled in the course are expected to take the Advanced Placement examination in Chemistry. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Course: AP Environmental Science Grades: 11, 12 Prerequisites: grade of B or better in Biology; completion of Chemistry This course builds on the foundations of Biology and Earth and Space Science and is designed to be the equivalent of a college-level introductory environmental science course. The course covers interrelationships among elements of the natural world, environmental problems, and the relative risks associated with them. Descriptive and field investigations will emphasize detailed observation, data recording, data interpretation, and statistical analysis. Enrolled students are expected to take the Advanced Placement examination in Environmental Science. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Course: AP Physics Grades: 11, 12 Prerequisites: grade of B or better in physics and concurrent enrollment in or completion of Calculus This course builds on the foundations of Pysics is designed to be the equivalent of a college introductory physics course. the course covers Newtonian mechanics, fluid mechanics and thermal physics, electricity and magnetism, and waves and optics using algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. Descriptive and experimental laboratory investigations will emphasize detailed observation, data recording, data interpretation, and statistical analysis. Students enrolled in the course are expected to take the Advanced Placement Physics C examination in mechanics or in electricity and magnetism. |
