Dear Parents:

In Chapter 11, the students will learn how to:
• check in for a flight
• talk about some services on board the plane
• get through the airport after deplaning
• tell what you or others are currently doing
• tell what you know and whom you know
• discuss the importance of air travel in South America

You can help your child be successful in his or her study of Spanish even if
you are not familiar with the language.
Here are a few suggestions to help you help your child
practice the material in this chapter.
With your child, use the Internet—either at home or at your local public
library—to look up the Web site for a Spanish or Latin American airline, or an airport in a
Spanish-speaking country. As you and your child explore the site together, have your child keep
a running list of words that appear on the site that he or she has already learned from Chapter
11. Ask your child questions such as which words appear most frequently or which words would be
essential to know while traveling to/from a Spanish-speaking country.

Pretend that you and your child are taking a trip to a Spanish-speaking
country. Your child will act as your interpreter for the duration of the trip. Together, create
a quick reference list of questions your child will need to ask airport and
airline personnel in order to ensure that you both reach your final
destination.

Feel free to plan other activities you think will help your child develop
his or her language skills.
