PE Description and GoalsProgram DescriptionThis a new and exciting year for the ICS PE Program. The department has researched and has designed a new curriculum for the students. This curriculum involves activites that involve the following 5 components: Fitness (health and skill related), Cognitive (left-right brain/body connection), Rythmics, movement, and manipulative. Our new program revolves mostly around a station format. We feel stations give students and opportunity to progress and develop at their own level. It also allows students to work on their own strengths and weaknesses without feeling inferior to their peers. We have also introduced the PE LAB. We have always wanted to teach health and fitness topics in our class, but have never had the time or opportunity to do so. This year has been the first year we've had middle school students four days a week, which allows for that extra day to teach these topics. This LAB is very hands on and will allow the kids to learn on their own by doing. Each week students will receive at least one day of stations, one day of PE LAB, one day of a game day, and one choice day. Our GoalsReview and practice fundamental sports and movement skills with an emphasis on individual skill-related and health-related fitness.
Develop strength, endurance, and flexibility while applying personal fitness goals with lifetime fitness.
Games and team sports are emphasized to involve and keep students active on a daily basis.
Children enjoy actively participating with peers without feeling inferior based on their individual strengths or weaknesses.
Learn fitness components, teamwork, and cooperation through activities where the primary focus is active participation rather than skill and drill.
Create a positive environment in which all students can achieve success.
