I was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, and moved several times during
my childhood as my father, an economics and law professor, moved from one
university to another before bringing the family back to Charlottesville for
keeps when I was 12.
I ran cross country and track and played soccer in high school. In
addition to indulging in a lifelong interest in history (easy to do in
Virgina!), I was active in the Boy Scouts where I earned my Eagle Scout
award in my junior year of high school.
Georgetown University is my undergraduate alma mater where I studied
philosophy and art history because that’s what I found interesting. I spent
my junior year abroad in Florence, Italy, studying art, Italian language,
and the ristorantes and gelaterias of central Italy.
After college, I went to the University of Virginia School of Law and
practiced law for many years, primarily as a civil litigation attorney.
When the insurance company I worked for went out of business, I used the
occasion as an opportunity to pursue an ongoing interest in education and
coaching. I applied to the Masters in Teaching program at Towson University
and graduated in May 2007.
I have been impressed with the family atmosphere at Indian Creek and
with the way the faculty and staff support each other to help make the job
of educating ICS students go as smoothly as possible. Besides teaching
students in U.S. History, Law & Society, and Government, I also coach the
girls’ soccer team in the Fall season and the baseball team in the Spring
season.
I currently live in downtown Baltimore between the Inner Harbor and the
ball parks with my wife, Karen, my eighth grade son, Hal, and our family
cat, Mocha. In addition to reading history, science fiction, and popular
fiction, I enjoy hiking and playing all sorts of games, especially card
games, computer games, board games, and table top miniatures games.
