Curriculum

7th Grade Math

Text: Holt Middle School Mathematics Course 2 (2004)

We feel it is essential for students to master the concepts and procedures in basic math to insure a firm foundation before moving into more abstract levels of math.  Students will be expected to have mastered fraction, decimal, and integer operations by the end of this year as well as percents, exponents, basic equations and inequalities, and various kinds of statistical graphs.  Students will be introduced to linear graphing and functions and will build on their knowledge of geometry.  Proportional reasoning is a major topic in 7th grade. This course will prepare students for Algebra Prep in 8th grade.

 Pre-Algebra

Textbook: Prentice Hall Pre-Algebra (2000)

This course is for students who excelled in 6th grade Math. The pace and the material are challenging. Upon completing this course, students will have an excellent foundation for Algebra.

Emphasis: problem solving, mathematical communication, appropriate use of technology, introduction to algebraic concepts, critical thinking, and logical reasoning skills

Scope: integers and expressions; solving equations;decimals and equations; number theory; rational numbers and expressions; ratios, proportions and percent; equations and inequalities; graphing in the coordinate plane; algebra in geometry and measurement; area and volume formulas; right triangles in algebra; statistics and probability; and polynomials.
