I am starting my fifth year at ICS and could not be happier! Middle
schoolers have so much energy and enthusiasm to learn that it is a pleasure
to be here on a daily basis. My teaching career actually started at
Northeastern University and has also included stints teaching at Anne
Arundel Community College and Mount de Sales Academy in Catonsville, MD.
Personally - I am married to Captain John Bodnar (USNR-Ret) and am the mom
of 2 daughters - Clare who is a recent graduate of McDaniel College and
Molly who is a freshman at Anne Arundel Community College.
In addition to teaching science this year I will also be teaching Human
Development. I am thrilled to be part of this program this year as it helps
me in my own studies at Bowie State where I am working on a M.Ed in
Counseling Psychology. So, when I am not at ICS teaching and correcting
papers I am often at the library working on my own papers! I share this
information with my students so they hopefully will see learning as a
lifelong experience. Even at my "advanced" age I still am in school and
learning.
My main mission is to prepare middle school students to move onto high
school science with appropriate lab skills and basic concepts.
Additionally, I also hope to develop analytical skills which would allow
students to begin to draw on information from multiple chapters to answer
questions. This then helps them view science as a field and not as discrete
chapters of information. Finally - I want every student to understand that
they CAN succeed in science, science affects their everyday lives and
ultimately it is FUN!
