8th Art History is a class where we teach them the American art that was
happening during the period they are studying in their History class. We
began with Jacob Lawrence, an artist of the Harlem Renaissance, and
created a sport or job related cut paper poster in his style, since they
studied the Civil Rights movement. We moved on to Wayne Thiebaud and
his American icon style pastel/repetitive composition drawings. Joseph
Cornell is the subject matter for a 3 dimensional "Memory Box" they have
been creating using objects, pictures and other items that will reflect
thmeselves. At least one part of their display has movement. We will
paint in the style of Georgia O’Keeffe's abstract paintings and create
Frank Stella sculpture paintings, as well. We see them one time a week for
40 minutes.
