INTERMEDIATE
HOMEWORK: Finish the contract, save it, sign it, get your parent's signature
and return it to me for my signature. Go over the other 2 pages. 4th, 5th and
6th graders have had their first conference. All students had the
opportunity to work on computers for either research or "First in Math." All
students had the opportunity to look at and check out print material for
sources for the Independent Study Project. These papers must be kept for
pages 20, 21, and 22. Next time we meet after Thanksgiving, we will begin
analyzing "Step 2" on finding resources pages 23 - 28 and getting prepared
for conference # 2.
(On April 8 the Independent Study Project is due. On May 13 the Intermediate
Independent Study Booklet is due with ALL signatures.)
JUNIOR GREAT BOOKS -- Today we had our "Evaluative Writing" after a table
discussion on the needed qualities of courage, patience, goodness, impudence
and luck in order to be a success in life. A choice had to be made of the
most important quality and why using text support from "Podhu and Aruwa".
HOMEWORK: Finish the "Creative Writing" assignment of creating your own
village.
INDEPENDENT STUDY PROJECT -- STEP 1 is what we are working on now "Choosing a
Topic and Making a Plan." That means thinking about what they would like to
research and learn more about. Today we continued conference # 1 with 6th
graders. We have finished our Contract p. 20, Source requirements p. 21 and
our first conference p. 22. (The Booklets still have not come from the
Warehouse.) At the conferences the children are firming up their plan for
their next step and thinking about their presentations. Ask to see their
conference paper. The next time we meet we will finish the last of conference
# 1 and the look at "Step 2: Finding Resources" pages 23 - 28.
On April 8 the Independent Study Project is due. On May 13 the Intermediate
Independent Study Booklet is due with ALL signatures.
