TAG Ind Study Proj.

PRIMARY REQUIREMENTS -- Children and parents can be discussing and thinking
about a possible topic the Primary TAG student would like to investigate with
research and write a 1 - 2 page paper on. It should be something they
already are familiar with but want to learn more about. Yellow Guided
Independent Study booklets were given out at our first meeting on October 2.
More details will be shared at future meetings.

On April 23, the Independent Study Project is due.

On May 7 the completed Independent Study Booklets are due with ALL
signatures.

INTERMEDIATE REQUIREMENTS -- STEP 1 is what we are working on now "Choosing
a Topic and Making a Plan." That means thinking about what they would like to
research and learn more about. On April 8 the Independent Study Project is
due. On May 13 the Intermediate Independent Study Booklet is due with ALL
signatures.

PRIMARY & INTERMEDIATE:

ALL Papers MUST have the following:
1) TITLE PAGE
2) Written summation of what was learned from the research. The body of the
text must be a reasonable font (12 - 14) and
the correct amount of pages:
2nd Grade - 1 page
3rd Grade - 2 pages
4th Grade - 3 pages
5th Grade - 4 pages
6th Grade - 5 pages
3) Bibliography which MUST have one book, one encyclopedia resource
(print or online) and one reliable website (NOT Wikipedia).
Papers are NOT part of the presentation which MUST include a product to share
with the class to show what they have learned.
After their presentation, they must share their project with their classroom.
Primary will then turn in their completed yellow booklet. Intermediate will
finish Step 5, p.62 to the end of the booklet, "Evaluate Product and
Process." Two pages will need student and parent signatures. The completed
booklet Must be turned in by May 1, in order to successfully complete TAG.

ASSIGNMENT: Before the children begin to use different websites, I want them
to be able to evaluate the reliability of their sources. In order to do that
they should go to
http://www.kn.att.com/wired/fil/pages/listevaluatisa.html
or go to the "Links" link at the top of this page and then go to "Evaluating
Websites for Accuracy." There are 12 websites, please look at at least 5 of
them to see how a website is not necessarily reliable. They should have
filled in at least one of the "Evaluating Websites" sheets that I gave them.
