About The Teacher

I am the Library Media Specialist at Marlton Elementary School.

My teaching career began in 1970 at Valley View Elementary School.
Due to a drop in enrollment, I left to teach at William Beanes
Elementary School. While teaching 5th grade there, I married Neil
Hansen, a D.C. Firefighter. After two years at William Beanes,
I was blessed with my daughter, Neandra.

I returned to teaching at Cooper Lane Elementary for a very
brief time and then became a substitue teacher for a year.

I returned to teaching at a private school in D.C. called Naylor
Road Elementary. While there I was again blessed, this time with my
son Robert. After three years, I became the principal of Naylor
Road School for grades 1 - 6 for a total of seven years. While
there, I completed a Master's Degree in Child and Human Development
at George Washington University.

I went to teach at Capitol Christian Academy in Largo, MD for six
years.

I decided to return to public school at Benjamin D. Foulois
Traditional Academy, teaching 4th through 6th grade for ten years.
I served as Grade Level Chairperson at each of those grade levels
during that time.

Looking for a career change, I entered a program sponsored by
Prince George's County and the University of Maryland to train
Library Media Specialists. As I worked on this second Master's
Degree, I became the Library Media Specialist at Springhill Lake
Elementary School for two years. During this time, my daughter
Neandra presented me with my grandson, Justin William born on
April 27, 2001. My son Robert married Cori Grass in August of
2002 and bought a home in the Upper Marlboro area where they
lived until moving to Florida in February of 2009.

I then became the Library Media Specialist at Marlton Elementary
School where I would be closer to home. My nine years here have
been wonderful! I have served as the TAG Coordinator for both
Primary and Intermediate TAG. I have worked with various reading
groups and been involved in the Extended Learning program. I even
worked half-time with the special education team during one year.

While at Marlton Elementary, on March 22, 2004, Cori and Robert
presented me with my beautiful granddaughter, Morgan Renee Hansen.
My daughter Neandra married Chip Settle on September 3, 2005.
They live in Inwood, West Virginia where they are raising Justin,
who is now in 3rd grade. On March 16, 2006 precious Amber Rayne
joined my son Robert's family. On January 6, 2007 Neandra and
Chip had a son named Henry Ford Settle. On September 28, 2007,
Cori and Robert had their 3rd child, a little boy, Ryan Nathan.
My family has been so blessed to have FIVE grandchildren! In
February, Neandra and Chip will increase my grandchildren to SIX!

As the Library Media Specialist at Marlton Elementary School, the
infusion of technology into the classroom curriculum will continue
to be a strategy I will use to assist the staff. Children are busy
learning their User names and Passwords to logon to the many
computers located throughout our school.

During the 2009 - 2010 year, I am still the TAG coordinator and
the Primary and Intermediate TAG Instructor.

I have been blessed with SEVEN nominations into "Who’s Who Among
America’s Teachers" from the 3rd 1999 to the 11th Edition 2007!
I have served on the Library Media Support Team for nine years
which provides help to other Library Media Specialists throughout
the county. This has provided many special items for our Marlton
Library from the Office of Library Media Services Supervisor.

Mission For The Class

As the Library Media Specialist, I will ensure the support of the
educational program by providing materials, equipment, and
technological assistance to all members of the instructional
and support staff.

The program will assist all students regardless of ethnicity,
gender, or cultural background to find and develop knowledge to
find information to meet their curriculum needs, to appreciate
the printed word as entertainment and a source of knowledge.

As the Library Media Specialist, I will keep teachers abreast of
newly acquired materials and equipment. I will give assistance to
teachers in technology, curriculum planning, access to materials,
equipment, and information.

As the Library Media Specialist, I will instruct all students and
staff in electronic retrieval systems that are available in the
media center and at home, audio-visual equipment use, and how to
locate materials.
