Kindergarten News

Dear Parents,

November is passing by so quickly. There is so much to share with
you about the days that have passed and the days that are to come.
We enjoyed conferencing with you and are hopeful that you learned as
much from us as we learned from you. We will continue to provide an
enriching, exciting, fun-filled kindergarten year for your boys.
As you already know, we learned about the Presidential election and
each boy cast his ballot for President. The first grade classroom was our
election site and the entire process from registration to the casting of the
ballots was a civic lesson for all of our students. We believe they were
well acquainted with the candidates and made wise selections in their
private voting.
On Friday of election week the fourth graders in Mrs. Wood and Mrs.
Hertz’s classroom came to read to our students. Our students had the
opportunity to share their reading abilities and books with these fourth
graders. Collaborating with other students is an enriching experience for
fourth graders and kindergarten students.
Show and Tell last week was the sharing of things that come in
threes. This impressive collection is on display outside Mrs. Pelzman’s
math lab. Thank you for working with your son to come up with ideas to
develop number sense.
For cooking the boys made penguins. These penguins tasted as good
as they looked. Yes! We digest and ingest all of our learning.
This week Mr. B arrived to show off his colorful buttons. The boys
made an impressive list of Bb words and have been carrying out some B table
tasks. The Letter People puppets and inflatables are a great source of fun
and learning for the boys.
We had a wonderful trip to the Bethesda Fire Station on Thursday.
The fire fighters were terrific and were very impressed with our well
behaved students. Everyone had a great opportunity to see a new bus which
can service eighteen patients and other impressive fire trucks and
equipment. Did you know that a Fire fighter must get into his uniform in
sixty seconds when the call comes in? We ended our visit just as an
emergency call came in and our firefighters had to rush to the rescue. It
was a great and informative field trip. We are hopeful that you read your
son’s stories about this experience. Thank you to our chaperones – Ms.
Grace (Niels’ mother), Mrs. Sparmo, (Joey’s mother), and Mrs. Crowe, (Owen’s
mother).
This week for Show and Tell the boys shared things that come
in fours. They made a fire truck for cooking.
Next week we’ll begin to prepare for Thanksgiving. The boys will
learn about the Pilgrims and Native Americans and the first Thanksgiving.
We will also begin to make our Thanksgiving outfits for our Feast. Our
feast will take place on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving Break. In keeping
with the spirit of sharing we have invited our first grade friends to be a
part of our celebration. Everyone shares some bounty. It is a kids only
Feast – no parents- just teachers and students. We will take plenty of
pictures so you can find out and share what happens at the Feast.
We have put up many pictures on the web: our voting; fourth graders
reading with kindergarteners; and the trip to the fire station. Please feel
free to share and discuss what is happening in the pictures with your son.

Enjoy a crisp Fall week-end!
					Best wishes,

					Irma Kahn & Judy Halperin

P.S. The boys put together a great Thanksgiving bulletin board. The bodies
of the turkey are your son’s foot. The feathers were made by using a special
magic marker and spraying water on special paper. The turkeys are very
special and each has its own personality. Be sure to take a look at this
Hall Bulletin Board.
