Our first day of school went very well. We are quickly learning what it
takes to be third graders. We will be spending much of the first weeks
getting to know one another and learning routines both in and out of the
classroom. Our regular schedule begins today, Sept. 3rd, with all encore
classes up and running. The entire third grade will do reading and math
assessments and will split into groups soon. Each morning we begin our day
with a morning meeting which allows for greeting, sharing, news and
announcements. We are thrilled and honored to be teaching this wonderful
group of students. We're off to a great start!

Homework will begin the week of September 8th. Your can expect your
child to receive 2-3 subjects per night totaling approximately 30-40 minutes.
Please be sure to check your student’s assignment book and sign the bottom of
the page acknowledging homework completion. Students should work
independently and parents do not need to check homework for accuracy. If you
have a question or comment regarding homework, we ask you to write a note in
the homework planner. We also ask that your child read 20 minutes per night
in a book of their choice. They can read independently, listen to a book on
tape, or buddy read with a parent. We will soon begin to learn cursive. Alpha
Smarts are also available and used in our classroom for written work product,
so we'll be working on both important skills.

We have one snack break each morning at 9:45. Please send a nutritious
snack to school with your child. Lunch is served daily at 11:45. We also ask
that you send in a note if your child has any changes in their afternoon
dismissal plans such as leaving school early or going home with a friend.
The yellow Thursday folder comes home each week with your student's weekly
work and important papers. Please be sure to empty it and send it back on
Friday.
We look forward to meeting all of you on Back-to-School Night,
September 23rd at 6:30. Please feel free to contact us via phone or e mail
with any questions or concerns. It's going to be a GREAT year !
