Overview:
Grade 5 General Music students will explore different styles and genres of
music through composition, performance, and listening. Students will
complete intensive studies of an American composer culminating in a final
presentation. Course work will also include music theory, form analysis and
the continued development of active listening skills.
Grade 5 General Music classes meet once a week for forty minutes.
General Syllabus:
Quarter 1
Note reading review, two- and three- part form analysis, introduction of
turn of the century American composers
Quarter 2
Note reading, four-part form analysis, 12-tone studies
Quarter 3
Note reading, complex form analysis, independent composer study
Quarter 4
Note reading, complex form analysis, completion of independent composer study
