| A Look Forward to the 2007-2008 School Year…
The Learning Specialist coordinates the academic programming for all Lower
School students. When necessary the Learning Specialist with the teachers
input will identify the need for additional academic support. Feel free to
call or email with any academic concern to the Learning Specialist.
Screening and assessment tools
•Administer KPALS, PALS in K-3
•Coordinate the administration of the Gates-MacGinitie Reading Test
in grade 4
•Coordinate the Stanford 10 Testing
Teacher outreach and resources
•Provide teaching materials, strategies, tools to faculty members
•Collaborate on student interventions with teachers
Parent outreach and support services
•Act as liaison/facilitator with parents, outside providers,
teachers, and administration on student programs and assessments
Individualized student programs
•Co-teach Phonological Awareness program in Kindergarten with Ellen Fye
•Direct KPALS peer reading with fourth grade students and
Kindergarten students
•Direct reading intervention for students in grades 1-4 in Read
Naturally
•Co-teach pragmatics to all classes
•Provide Phono-Graphix® intervention to small groups, as needed
Administrative outreach and support
•Serves on admissions committee
•Observes and assesses new students
•Review and interpret incoming students testing
Outside provider services
•Support policies and procedures regarding outside service provision
•Make recommendations to parents for outside services
•Make referrals to outside providers
