| A Look Forward to the 2007-2008 School Year
The Lower School Counselor provides assessment, counseling, and when
necessary, provides parents with professional referrals. On an ongoing
basis, coordinates with teachers and outside professionals. The counselor
works closely with faculty and students to create a positive and cooperative
school climate.
Programmatic interventions
Implements a comprehensive school program that promotes and
enhances student functioning
Implements prosocial behavioral program to counteract bullying,
teasing, and disrespectful behavior
Implements Lower School Golden Hand program to develop prosocial
supportive environment
Leads Lower School Climate Committee
Provides a safe learning environment and works to develop supportive
school and community environment
Parent outreach and support services
Acts as liaison/facilitator with parents and mental health providers
Observes and assesses students
Teacher outreach and resources
Provides strategies and tools to faculty members focusing on
behavioral intervention plans and strategies
Observes and assesses students
Assists with individual intervention plans
Outside provider services
Supports policies and procedures regarding behavioral management and
conflict resolution
Makes recommendations to parents for behavioral approaches and
facilitates the use of outside mental health services
Refers students to outside mental health professionals
Individualized student programs
Facilitates prosocial community building relationships and language
in Lower School
Co-teaches pragmatics to all classes
Leads friendship groups
Identifies at risk students and implements interventions to
enhance success
