FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
What will I study in Social Studies this year? You will study the geography, culture, and history of the Eastern Hemisphere. What are the units of study in social studies? The units of study are Our Earth, North Africa and The Middle East, Sub- Saharan Africa, and South, East, and Southeast Asia. What is the title of my social studies textbook? The Gifted and Talented Classes will use Prentice Hall's World Cultures-A Global Mosaic. The standard social studies classes will use McDougal Littell's World Cultures and Geography. (Textbooks are to be covered and left at home) What is your homework policy? (10% of your grade) I assign homework every other day for completion and/or accuracy depending on the nature of the assignment. Students have two days to complete homework. Students have one day to make-up unexcused homework. After that, you will earn a zero for that assignment. A missing assignment stamp is marked in your agenda book and parents are encouraged to initial it. Homework is 10% of your grade. What is your class work and notebook policy? (40% of your grade) Your class work is made-up of warm-ups and any in-class assignments that we complete that day. Any classwork that is not completed in class will be homework. A separate Notebook Guideline form will be glued in to your interactive notebook for you to read and sign at a later date. How often do you give quizzes, assessments, and projects? (50% of your grade) I give at least two quizzes per grading period. I give the Howard County quarterly assessment at the end of each grading period. You will receive a study guide and review activities prior to the assessment. The G.T. classes will be required to complete at least two GT Inquiry Projects that relate to their unit of study. The Standard Social Studies classes will complete at least one project on endangered African animals during the third quarter. My grading policy is as follows: A= 90-100% B= 80-89% C= 70-79% D= 60-69% E= 0-59% What is the best way to contact you? I would love to hear any questions, comments, or concerns you may have.
