This quest process involves the completion of 5 steps. Each step is
a link located on the navigation bar at the top of this page.
Before going to the first step, you may want to get a list of
vocabulary words and definitions to help you
understand as you read. Click
here to get your vocabulary words.
Then, click the back arrow to come back to this page.
In the first step, you will use an interactive tool to
calculate personal measurements in order to find your
body mass indexes. This self-analysis of personal health during
the lesson will help you connect with the reality of the topic.
In step 2, you will view a slide show of the progression of
overweight adults in the U.S. over two decades. You will
identify details that relate this sequence to an "epidemic".
In step 3, you will read articles and use the Internet to
research obesity, and the health risks related to it. The
details you gather will help you complete two team projects
in steps 3-4.
In step 4, you and a partner will use facts and details
gathered on the topic and pair up to complete a web page,
brochure, or newsletter informing others about obesity,
its causes and effects including health risks, and
prevention tips.
Finally, in step 5, you and your partner will team up to
plan and create a persuasive PowerPoint presentation directed
to school leaders on how schools are contributing to the obesity
epidemic and how they can help prevent it.
