"I'm taking the first car
with hands up all the way, baby!"
To show their appreciation of thrill-seeker patronage,
“Slicks Flags Amusement Parks” is hosting a roller coaster
design contest for middle school students.
Slicks Flags wants to get innovative ideas from those who know what they
want in amusement park rides — the riders. They are the ‘tried and true’
who give roller coasters the ‘thumbs up’ or ‘thumbs down’ according
to 'thrill, zeal, and chill appeal’.
Not only is “thrill” a factor, Slicks Flags wants to know that the ideas
demonstrate an understanding of roller coaster history, safety, design, and
physics. The ideas should also demonstrate team collaboration, and
creative, critical-thinking skills using technology.
All roller coaster designs are to be completed by teams
consisting of these 3 members: historian, physicist, and design engineer.
Each member’s role is critical, crucial, and consequential. Your team’s
design will be evaluated on how well it demonstrates each of the factors
given. Your design may be selected for ideas or possible construction at
one of the “Slicks Flags Amusement Parks”. That would be the ultimate
thrill!
