When is homework assigned?

Math and Language Arts homework is assigned Monday-Friday. Students must
study spelling words and multiplication facts each night in addition to
their
written work. Also, students should read for 30 minutes and complete their
Book-It Logs. Students should record the book they read in the "Keep Track"
section of their agenda books. Special projects will also be given and may
require some
weekend work.

What about the agenda book?

The agenda book is the vehicle for communication at Perrywood. Each child
must write the homework for the day in the agenda book. Parents are
required
to sign the book daily, checking homework and behavior. A behavior
stamp is placed in the agenda every day. If you have questions, please
write
notes in the agenda book.

How can I help my child memorize math facts?

Students need lots of practice with their facts. Using fact cards to drill
them works well, however, you must practice every day. Also, listening to a
multiplication rap cd or tape will also help them remember. Another way is
to have your child skip count by the facts they are working on. For
example,
if you are practicing the 4's, skip count by 4's. (4,8,12,16,20, etc.)
Practice while you are cooking dinner or riding in the car.

When will my child bring home work from school?

Students will bring home work every week. Each child has their own mailbox
and will take home work at least once a week. Students must put their
papers
in their home folder. This folder should be checked and cleaned out daily.
If you do not see work coming home, please ask your child about the papers
for the week. Math tests will go home the day after the test. We go over
the
test in class, so any mistakes should be corrected in class.

How should I help my child with homework?

By the 4th grade, students should be completing homework independently,
however, a parent should always check over the work to make sure the child
is
understanding the material. Please have your child complete the homework
alone at first and then go over any mistakes with your child. This not only
gives you a chance to see what concepts your child is working on, but gives
them the extra one-on-one attention they may need to fix any careless
errors. If your child is having great difficulty with a certain concept,
please call to schedule a conference.
