Mrs. Williams completed her Bachelor of Science in Music Education at
Hampton University and her Master of Science degree from McDaniel college in
Curriculum and Instruction. A musician since the age of 6, and a lover of
various types of music including Gospel, Jazz, Blues, Classical, and Oldies,
Mrs. Williams enjoys spending time with family, reading, writing plays and
stories, composing and arranging music, and working with young people in her
church. When she is not doing these things she may be on the internet,
enjoying computer games, or traveling. I am very excited about this school
year and and working with the students and staff!!!!!!
Ms. Gorman got married this summer and she's now Mrs. Veihmeyer! (But, you
can call her Mrs. V.) She loves to teach as much as she loves to sing! She
completed her Bachelor of Music Education at Wheaton College Conservatory of
Music in 2004, but her family will tell you that she began conducting her
little sister in concert on their front porch at the age of 3. This is her
second year at Perrywood and she CAN'T WAIT to see how much every Perrywood
musician has grown.
Ms. Dvorak teaches Instrumental Music at Perrywood ES on Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Fridays and at Patuxent ES on Tuesdays and Thursdays. She
completed her Bachelor of Science in Music Education degree at Towson State
University and is currently in graduate school there. Ms. Dvorak is active
as an adjudicator, private studio teacher, and freelance cellist in the
Baltimore/Washington area. She is one of the conductors of the Prince
George's County Jr. Youth Orchestra. She has written elementary strings
curriculum for Prince George's County Public Schools. She recently
served as a string clinician for the Goddard Public Schools in Goddard,
Kansas. She is a member of Music Educators National Conference and Maryland
Music Educators Association. You may email her at lisa.dvorak@pgcps.org
Mrs. Williams' mission:
My mission for our students this year is to enhance their talents in
music and challenge them to reach new levels of excellence across the
curriculum. We have a new curriculum this year and many challenges await us.
I am confident that with consistent study and practice we will be
successful. On the primary level, it is my mission to prepare these students
in the following areas, reading music, form, melodic direction, identifying
instruments, and identifying patterns. On the intermediate level, it is my
mission to work with the students in the following areas writing music,
instrument classification, musical symbols, texture, dynamic markings, time
signature, ear training, scales and form.
As always, our school chorus has a policy to insure that students who
are eligible to participate maintain a good grade point average. Students
who participate in chorus are not allowed to recieve no more than one letter
grade of "C" in any subject on their report card in order to remain. I am
expecting a great year!!!!
Mrs. Veihmeyer's Mission:
My mission is to guide students through the process of exploration as
they discover their own passion and appreciation for music and its many
facets. Together, we will experience the joys and challenges of perceiving,
reading, writing, and performing music from many continents and centuries.
We will work together to understand what music is, why we have it, how it
works, and how to create our own. And, we will strive for excellence as we
sing and play as one voice.
Ms. Dvorak's mission:
To work "Hand In Hand", guiding Perrywood Instrumental Music students
through
the philosophy and objectives of the Prince George's County Elementary
Instrumental Music Program: "To provide students with the appropriate
resources, experiences, and opportunities to develop positive attitudes and
sensitivities toward instrumental music through the development of music
reading skills, playing skills on a band or orchestral instrument, ensemble
performance skills, and an appreciation of the historical development of
music".
