This is my fourth year at Rachel Carson. I am thrilled to be back at this
wonderful school for another year.
My students are always anxious to find out tidbits of information about me.
Here is a bit for you . . .
I grew up in beautiful Calvert County. I enjoyed school, but because I was
surrounded by my many gifted siblings I often doubted myself. My fifth grade
teacher, Ms. Craig, taught me to believe in my own abilities. It has been my
ambition to do the same for my students.
I graduated from Hood College with a BA in Early Childhood Education and a
minor in Photography. I immediately began working on a second degree at Hood
College and earned a MS in Curriculum & Instruction in Elementary School
Science and Mathematics in May 2007. This year I will complete a Masters
Certificate in Professional Teaching Standards at George Washington
University. I will also be pursuing National Board Certification. In addition,
I will be serving as the school's 3-5 Science Lead Teacher. It will be a busy
and rewarding year!
I've always wanted to be a teacher. When I was in third grade I wrote that my
dream was to go to Hood College and then teach third grade. At that time my
little brother, Arik, wanted to be an astronaut (he is now studying
architecture). He was going to take my class to the moon! Achieving two out of
three dreams isn't bad! :)
Aside from teaching, I love taking pictures, spending time with my very large
family (I'm number 12 of 13 children!) including my many nieces and nephews,
and reading. During the fall, I enjoy rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers
(even though I'm not from Pittsburgh!). My favorite book of all time
is Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Patterson. I still have my first copy of
the book, which I received in 5th grade.
I consider myself very lucky to teach your children. Thank you for allowing me
to do so!
As my students' teacher, I work to help them develop confidence in their
abilities, an appreciation and respect for others, and an understanding of
the importance of working cooperatively with others.
