Ms. Karns is celebrating her third year teaching sixth grade RELA at Salisbury Middle School.

Ms. Karns has been working with children in some capacity for about ten
years. Prior to her current position, teaching RELA at SMS, Ms. Karns taught
K-5 science, was the Education Specialist and Camp Counselor at Pemberton
Park, worked with various childcare facilities in the area, and volunteered
with the S.T.A.R.S. program throughout Wicomico County.

In addition to being a teacher, Ms. Karns is a life-long learner and
perpetual student. She is currently seeking her Masters in "Teaching and
Learning With Technology" at Salisbury University.

When not at school, Ms. Karns enjoys exploring, whether it be a local trail
or far off destination. She also likes watching the Shorebirds (especially on
fireworks nights), working out at the gym, and going to the beach. Of course,
she loves to read as well (obviously)!

In addition to bettering ourselves as readers, our goal as true learners
should be to better our ability to learn. The lessons and skills that we
learn this year are designed to teach us how to think and problem solve. In
other words, we'll be learning how to learn. In this day and age, it is
impossible to know everything about any given topic. We are better served to
learn how and where to find new information and to never be afraid to seek it!
