As our weekly Spelling lists will be posted on this page, it is important
to know that our Reading and Spelling Curricula are integrated. At the
beginning of each Spelling Unit, you can expect to receive a Spelling/
Word Wall Words list. Word Wall Words (W.W.W.) are the high frequency
words the children learn to automatically recognize and spell in 2nd Grade.
The words should be practiced regularly. We will assess for mastery at the
end of each chapter (approximately one week to ten days). Students will be
tested on both Spelling and W.W.W. Your child should be able to read each
word and use it in a complete sentence. Weekly Spelling homework will
require putting all of the words in ABC order and writing five sentences,
using one (or more!) word in each sentence. It is important to review these
words nightly to ensure mastery.
Your support at home should help your child to improve his or her reading
and comprehension skills. Reading homework is assigned nightly and should be
done with a parent. Your assistance in working with your child is greatly
appreciated.
