Make sure to give your parents the course expectations and have signed before Tuesday, Sept. 8. Read Chapter 1, Section 1 pps. 6-9. 9/3 Fill in Vocabulary sheet. Use the term and not the number for the matching, it will be easier to study. 9/4 Make sure you have your course expectations for social studies form signed and returned by Tuesday, September 8. If you have lost it, you can find the form under Study Guide. 9/8 Quiz Wednesday on Lesson 1, Chapter l. Review sheet given in class to be completed for homework. This is a preview of your quiz. Project paper given for Interview with the Iceman. We will work on this in class Thursday and begin interviews on Friday. 9/9 With your parent's permission, do some research on Otzi the Iceman and bring it in tomorrow to share with your partner so that you can write questions for your interview. 9/10 Project due. If you wish to add to your notes, please do so, but do not copy everything from the book into your notes. Pay attention to p. 61. Thank you for being receptive to taking both quizzes. 10/21 Read Section 3, pps. 43-47. 10/22 Discuss Current Events, sports injuries and coaches and the anglo- Saxon treasure. 10/28 Make your own code and write a message. Refer to page 47 and look at the chart on cuniform. First, make a list of nouns of things that were important to the people at this time ( sun, water, fire, animals) just like we did in class. Next, make a list of verbs that you might use and create a symbol that looks like the triangle shaped examples in the book. You will also need a list of adjectives and prepositions ( over, under, above, in). Once your have made your lists of words and pictures and symbols, write a sentence or two using your own form of cuneiform writing. Do this on plain paper or loose leaf paper. In class on Friday, you will give your code list and your sentenced to a classmate, and he/she should be able to decipher your code. Write your code list on one paper and your sentences on another. Remember the Sumerians and Babylonians had 700 symbols. We only have to remember 26 letters. Hooray for the Phoenicians who gave us consonants and the Greeks who gave us vowels! This assignment is due on Friday, October 31. 10/29 Code and message due tomorrow. Make sure that another person can read your message. Read Section 4 on the Phoenicians and Israelites. 11/2 Do worksheet on Phoenecia and Israel. 11/3 Read Section 5 on Judaism. 11/4 Study for your quiz on Section 4, tomorrow. 11/5 Quiz today. Review all your Guided Reading and quizzes to prepare for your test on Tuesday. 11/6 Study for your test on Tuesday. Review your quizzes, notes and guided readings. Check your on-line text to take a practice quiz or test. 11/9 Test on Chapter 2. 11/10 Test today. Read Section 1 on Chapter 3 on Egypt. 11/12 Discuss mummifiction and pyramid building and life in Egypt with your parents. 11/16 Read Section 1 on Egypt. Show your tests to your parents. 11/17 Finish the Guided Reading page we started in class. Discuss the film with your parents. 11/18 Study your Guided Reading notes on Section 1. We have a quiz on Section 1 on Monday. 11/19 Discuss the Taliban and Pakistan from CE today. Also discuss what's wrong with sugared drinks. 11/20 No homework. 11/23 Quiz today. Discuss movie popcorn and candy. 11/30 Read Section 2 on Egypt and be ready to answer questions in Assessment at the end of the section. 12/1 Finish the vocabulary at the end of the Guided Reading for Egypt, Section 2. Quizzes on Section 1, returned today. 12/2 Quiz on Section 2 on Monday, Dec. 7.Study your notes. Talk about the Egyptian Cinderella. 12/3 Discuss the film with parents.
