Coming from a large Catholic family, my parents wanted us to attend
Catholic grade school. The nuns that taught me influenced my decision to
become a teacher. After attending public high school, I was accepted to the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I graduated in 1974 earning BS in
elementary education for grades 1-6. Besides my major, I also had a double
minor in the area of science and library science. While in Wisconsin, I held
a license as a school librarian and a life license for teaching grades 1-6.
Before coming to St. Bernadette School, I taught 6 years fulltime in grades
3, 4, and 5 and 2 years part time as a reading resource teacher. In this
time period, I married and had three children. A couple of days before
Halloween in 1987, my family and I moved to Maryland. In the fall of 1988, I
started teaching at St. Bernadette School. In those 21 years, I have spent
18 years in the fourth and fifth grade level. Currently, I hold a license
in the state of Maryland for grades 1-6 and middle school.
The reason that I have spent the last 21 years at St. Bernadette's is that
it is a great school and community. My children attended and graduated from
St. Bernadette School. Each year I see more students gaining the benefit of
education but more importantly they become part of a community that will
support them in later life.
Every child to learn to his or her ability and to enjoy their time in 5th
grade.
