For Parents

Web sites related to the Accelerated Reader program:
https://Hosted218.renlearn.com29813/HomeConnect/Login.aspx
This site gives you updates to your child's reading progress.

www.arbookfind.com - This site will tell you the reading level of books.

Please Note: When a student has a late book a reminder is sent home,
with the student, to inform the parent. When a book is more than 4 weeks
late a bill will be sent home via the mail.

From grades 2 - 8, the children are able to check out 2 books. Students are
strongly encouraged to keep one of the books in their desks so when they are
finished with classroom tasks or tests they have reading material available.

Full day kindergarten and 1st grade take out 1 book each. Their teachers are
giving them time during the week for silent reading.

Get Creative with Writing Ideas

If you would like your child to spend more time writing but they don't want
to keep a journal there are many alternatives to journal writing that your
child might find more engaging. Some examples are:

Newsarticles Start a family newsletter and let the children be the reporters. Encourage them to write a real letter to the editor. Magazine articles Have your child imagine that they write for one of his favorite magazines. What would they cover? Have them include photos or drawings with captions. Script Help your child write a short play. Ask family members to act in different roles. Compliment their creativity!
Book List for Lower Elementary Readers: Mrs. Brice's Mice, by Syd Hoff. Twenty-five mice follow Mrs. Brice's lead. But one mouse had different ideas. Readers see how independence can pay off. Patch by Kristen Earhart. Horse riding is too competitive for one girl, while another rides with quiet confidence. Still, a friendship is possible. Book List for Upper Elementary Readers: Socks by Beverly Cleary. This popular author looks at life from a cat's-eye view. Life is different (and amusing) when a baby joins the family. Just Juice by Karen Hesse. Does your child have trouble with reading? So does the main character in this book. It's written by an award- winning writer and recommended by experts.
