Although I am in my third and a half year of full-time teaching at St. Jude's,
I was associated with the school for over twenty years as a parent. All seven
of my children graduated from the school, the youngest a member of the class
of 2006; none of whom have been incarcerated yet. In short, I had a life.
I grew-up in Bethesda, MD, attended Holy Redeemer School in Kensington and
then, after a lot of hard work; determined effort; and being asked to stick
around for a fifth year, graduated from Gonzaga College High School. I
attended the University of Scranton where, in only four years, I received my
B.A in History with minors in English, Theology and Philosophy. I was involved
in college dramatics for a number of years and entertained the idea of going
to the New York stage after graduation. Fortunately, my mother ordered me home
and my roommate smacked me in the head before I did anything really stupid.
After college, I managed a gas station, worked for the Federal government, was
employed in a print shop, chauffeured for a few years, managed the Teamsters
Union's political action committee office for twelve years, testified before
Congress, worked as a graphic designer/web developer for eight years at a
legal staffing company and then came to teach at St. Jude's. It has truly been
an interesting ride that I'm not sure I would care to repeat.
In all of that time, I never abandoned my love of history or literature. I
have, over the years, spent a great amount of time researching, among other
things, the history of Washington, D.C. (especially its cemeteries) the city
where I have spent the majority of my life.
This year, I am, again, teaching Social Studies to both the 7th and 8th grades
as well as 8th Grade Literature. Truthfully, as noted, I have worked in a
number of fields during the course of my life but working at St. Jude's is, by
and far, the absolute best. After this, I guess I will just have to get run
over by a garbage truck and go to Heaven in order to have something better.
TMI? You clicked.
To explore space. No, I'm just kidding. Actually it's to learn about the past
and the beauty of the written and spoken word and stay awake.
