Although I am in my third year of full-time teaching at St. Jude's, I was
associated with the school for over twenty years as a parent. All seven of my
children graduated from the school, the youngest a member of the class of 2006.
I grew-up in Bethesda, attended Holy Redeemer School in Kensington and, after
a lot of hard work; determined effort; and being asked to stick around for a
fifth year, finally graduated from Gonzaga College High School. I attended the
University of Scranton where, in just four years, I received my B.A in History
with minors in English, Theology and Philosophy. I was involved in college
dramatics for a number of years and entertained the idea of going to New York
after graduation. Fortunately, my mother ordered me home and my roommate
smacked me in the head before I did anything really stupid.
After college, I managed a gas station, worked for the Federal government, was
employed in a print shop, chauffeured for a few years, managed the Teamsters
Union's political action committee office for twelve years, testified before
Congress, worked as a graphic designer/web developer for eight years at a
legal staffing company and then came to teach at St. Jude's.
It has truly been an interesting ride that I'm not sure I would care to repeat.
In all of that time, I never abandoned my love of history or literature. I
have, over the years, spent a long time researching, among other things,
the history of Washington, D.C., the city where I have spent the majority of
my life.
This year, I am teaching Social Studies to both the 7th and 8th grades as
well as 8th Grade Literature.
