KA Newsletter May 12, 2008
Dear KA Parents,
We hope all of our moms had a wonderful Mother's Day!
This week will be very exciting! We will have our Zoo-fari on Thursday, May 15th at 10:00am in the Blue Room. (We would like all that will be attending to be seated by 9:55am, as our program will begin promptly at 10:00am.) The event should last for about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. There will be light refreshments following the program. Please make sure that your child is prepared to speak about his/her animal. We practiced last week, and some children still did not know what their animal eats or where it lives. They need to know this and one interesting fact.
Next Monday, May 19th, we will be taking our field trip to the zoo. Thank you to all of our chaperones and to all others that will be joining us. It should be a lot of FUN for all! Each chaperone should only be assigned 2-3 children. Please meet in our classroom by 8:40am so that we can discuss the details of our trip and can exchange cell phone numbers. When we arrive at the zoo, each chaperone can take their group around on their own. We will meet back by 1:25pm so that the bus can depart for school by 1:30pm. The bus will be dropping off the children and picking them up near the Connecticut Ave. entrance so parents should probably plan on parking in the lot near there. Chaperones, please bring a bag/backpack to carry children's lunches that are in your group. ALL children/adults should bring a brown-bag lunch that is completely disposable, including a drink in a non-glass container. Please label each lunch bag with names. The children will wear their P.E. uniforms; however, please check the weather forecast to see what clothing is appropriate for that day. Make sure you apply sunscreen at home if your child needs it. ALL children MUST ride the bus to and from the zoo. We will return to school around 2:15pm. If you wish to take your child home at that time, you MUST sign him/her out in the office.
Here are our other plans for this week in KA. In Reading, we will finish Theme 8: Down on the Farm. We will review letter sounds, Ff, Hh, Ss, Oo and Xx with Alphafriends, Fifi Fish, Hattie Horse, Sammy Seal, Ozzie Octopus and Mr. X-ray. We will review our new word wall words, the and said. We will review our new word families, -ot and -ox. We will read A Lion on the Path and re-read, Mouse's Birthday. We will also read our phonics book, A Pot For Dan Cat in small groups. Please have your child complete the attached Phonics workbook pages for homework. In Math, we will finish Chapter 8 on Addition and Subtraction. This week, we will focus on subtraction by "separating" items from a whole group. Please have your child complete the attached workbook pages, 95-98 for homework. In Religion, we will continue to discuss the Blessed Mother and our devotion to her, especially during the month of May. We will also learn about God with our families in Chapter 11. We will attend Mass with our buddies on Friday.
We will have our last Show and Tell on Friday, for last names that begin with M-Z. Our last Show and Tell for last names, A-L will be on Friday, June, 6th.

We hope you have a great week and look forward to seeing you on Thursday at our Zoo-fari!
Sincerely,
