KA Newsletter June 9, 2008
Dear KA Parents,
It is hard to believe that this is our last week of school! I have thoroughly enjoyed working with your children and will miss them! They made MY experience very memorable and fun! I'm glad to have had the opportunity to teach again. Thank you to ALL of you for your support, as well! The children have grown a lot just in the past few months. However, they will continue to grow over the summer before First Grade, too. Please take the time to have them read (remind them to "sound out" words by segmenting each sound of each of the letters and putting them back together to say the word), write and work on math skills (ie. addition/subtraction, time, money, etc.) over the summer. This will help them so that they will be ready for First Grade. In their folder today, you will see a packet of worksheets to help, as well as reading suggestions from Mrs. Richter. This doesn't mean the children shouldn't have FUN! We hope you have a very relaxing, safe and fun-filled summer with your children!
Here are our plans for our last week in KA. We will finish up our last Reading unit and our last Math unit. The children have learned ten word families and 29 word wall words! (I will send home a list of these words this week.) There are plenty more words that they can learn as sight words by labeling common objects in your house with words written on index cards. They can also practice writing their name, words, sentences and stories with beginning, middle and ending sentences in their journals. They can also draw pictures with their stories based on their experiences over the summer. They do not need to be able to write all words correctly at this point. It's just good practice! (Parents can guide them how to write the words correctly as time permits.)
Today, June 9th, is our KA Awards Ceremony and Ice Cream Party at 1:00pm in the Blue Room. The children will present a program that includes a special song that they have learned from Mrs. Bentley, and then they will enjoy making their own ice cream sundaes and playing Bingo. All children should have brought towels or a small blanket to sit on. Thank you to Mrs. Mashburn and all of the parents who helped to make this a FUN afternoon for the children!
Tomorrow, June 10th is Field Day. We have broken the class into a "RED" team and a "GRAY" team. This information was sent home last week. (I am attaching it again, just in case.) Please make sure ALL of the students wear their maroon P.E. shorts and sneakers. However, depending on which team your child is on, he/she will need to wear a red or gray (P.E.) shirt. Please remember to apply sunscreen at home if needed. Also, children can wear hats and bring water bottles, with names labeled on both of them.
The children have three full days this week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. There is no Hot Lunch. Please remember to send snack and lunches everyday. However, Thursday, June 12th, will be a 12:00 Noon dismissal, and Friday, June 13th, our last day, will be an 11:00am dismissal. No lunches are needed on the last two days. We will attend Mass on the last day of school.
Thank you for ALL of your help and support throughout the year to Mrs. Melia, Mrs. Gormley and Mrs. Argyros and to me while I was here. You are a wonderful group of parents, and we loved working with your children! Have a fantastic summer!!!!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Hermann, Mrs. Gormley and Mrs. Argyros
