ANNOUNCEMENTS for the week of 11/16- 11/20.
*Dear Parents,
This past week we started our Multiplication unit. This week’s covered topics were repeated addition, arrays and the 0, 1 and 2 times tables. Students will be quizzed on each times table the day after students learn the times table in class.
Quizzes:
Tuesday: 0 and 1 times table
Wednesday: 2 times table
Thursday: 5 times table
Friday: 10 times table
Students will be given a quiz with 20 multiplication problems. Students will be given 1 ½ minutes to answer the 20 questions. Each quiz will be on one times table (ie. 2 times table only).
Students will take mixed practice quizzes throughout the unit.
If your child does not score an 80% or better, your child will be given 2 additional chances to meet the 80% score. The score of the final quiz will be the one recorded for your child.
If your child receives a score of 75% or below, you will need to sign the quiz sheet and return. The re-take quiz will be given on the following day.
I will be sending home some multiplication and division flash cards this week with your child. If you would like additional copies of these flash cards, you can print copies at home for your child.
I am a firm believer in memorization. I strongly suggest students memorize their multiplication facts!
Suggestions:
1. Have your child use cereal in order to model multiplication problems by making equal groups of cereal in order to learn their math facts.
2. Have your child practice with flashcard.
3. Have your child draw arrays to model multiplication problems.
4. Provide your child with computer time to play multiplication games.
5. Print out a blank multiplication table and have your child complete each column at home as we learn that table in school.

*SCIENCE SOLAR SYSTEM PROJECT:DUE FRIDAY, DECEMBER 4TH
Students will be expected to complete a Science Research Project. They will have an outline/worksheet with all directions regarding the project.
I have also included a rubric. My expectations are the same for this project as for any work done in my class: I will deduct 1/2 point for misspellings, inappropriate/missing capitals and punctuation.
I will also deduct 5 points from the total if handwriting is not neat, clear and legible.
EACH STUDENT IS EXPECTED TO COMPLETE THE OUTLINE/WORKSHEET PROVIDED, REGARDLESS OF WHICH TYPE OF REPORT THEY CHOOSE TO PRODUCE.
If your child would like to do a different object or a different presentation, THEY MUST BRING IT TO ME SO THAT I MAY APPROVE AND INITIAL IT BEFORE THEY BEGIN THEIR PROJECT. THEY MUST WRITE WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO DO ON THE WORKSHEET AND HAVE IT INITIALED BY ME.
***PLEASE NOTE: Your child is responsible for his/her outline/worksheet. I DO NOT HAVE ADDITIONAL COPIES.
If your child chooses to produce a Power Point presentation, that presentation will need to be emailed to me.
Students will also be required to present their project to the class.
Students will need to use their Astronomy booklet in order to complete their project. Your child is responsible for their booklet. I do not have any extra booklets. It is expected that your child bring his/her booklet back to school until we have completed all lessons in the booklet.
