Spanish is a living, modern language used by millions of people in many
parts of the world, as well as the U.S. When teaching the language, the 4
skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing will be addressed in
grade 3 through 5. In grades 1 and 2, listening and speaking are emphasized,
with some reading and writing.
This course gives a basic understanding of the Spanish language and
culture. It emphasizes basic grammar and syntax, simple vocabulary, and the
spoken accent so that the student is able to read, write, listen and speak
on a basic level. An appreciation of the culture is also introduced through
the study of native fine and popular art, literature, food, public behavior
and expectation, traditions and holidays, and history.
