Vocabulary:

1. artifacts- items made by humans that are left behind from a particular 
time period.

Map Categories:

1.	General Purpose Maps- use symbols to show the exact location of 
things on the earth. (Example: Physical Maps & Political Maps)
2.	Thematic Maps- are intended for one specific purpose: to communicate 
a particular topic or theme. (Example: Natural Resource Maps & Population 
Density Maps)


Coordinates- are pairs of numbers in degrees of latitude and longitude that 
are used to pin point a location on a map. The degree of latitude is always 
given first in a pair of coordinates. (ex. 20 degrees N, 10 degrees S)

Large Scale- shows less area, but more detail. (Ex. A map of an amusement 
park.)

Small Scale- shows more area, but less detail. (Ex. A map of the world.)
