History 9

Welcome to 9th grade history! During the 2008-2009 school year, we will be
reading the following books:

Orwell, George. 1984. New York: New American Library, 1961.

Larkin, Emma. Finding George Orwell in Burma. New York: Penguin, 2006.

Satrapi, Marjane. The Complete Persepolis. New York: Pantheon, 2007.

Hessler, Peter. Oracle Bones. New York: Harper Perennial, 2007.

In addition, all students need to have a copy of
Gibaldi, Joseph. MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers. 6th ed.
New York: Modern Language Association of America, 2003.

We will study the concepts of individual rights in government, world
religions, and how they intersect in modern societies as well as in the recent
past. Students will read and write often and will practice research skills
both alone and in small groups, using both print and electronic sources.
