Calverton Upper School
Upper School: Math (Geometry mainly)

B.S. in Mathematics (concentration in Education, minor in Art) from
Salisbury University--1991
M.Ed. from Salisbury University--1999
I am a life-long Maryland native who is now living in Southern MD after a
life on the Eastern Shore. After graduating from Salisbury University with
my Degree in Mathematics (minor in Art), I began teaching at Snow Hill
Middle School. After a year there, I wound up teaching for 13 years at
Cambridge-South Dorchester High School. While there, I was an It's Academic
Coach (10 years), Odyssey of the Mind Coach (1 year), Bowling Club Coach (7
years), Senior Class Play advisor (Co-Director: 1 year, Make-Up Tech.: 9
years, Backstage Crew: 9 years), Class Advisor (3 years), Prom Chaperone (12
years), photographer for the school paper and yearbook (whenever I could).
On three different occassions, I went with student groups to Europe in the
summer. Summer of 1994 = England & Scotland, Summer of 2000 = England,
Summer of 2006 = Paris & England (w/ a stop-over in Frankfurt, Germany).
These are fantastic trips and I highly recommend them to anyone interested.
If anyone is interested in going on another one, please let me know and we
can see if there is any other student interest out there! (FYI--I usually
tend to stick to countries where I can speak the language. Translation:
English-speaking countries! lol)
The policies and standards of The Calverton School are a fine example of
what is expeced. In addition, I expect someone, if he or she misses class or
is not grasping something, to see me outside of class. I only have planning
period (see my schedule on the other web page), but I am here for a while
most days after-school!
No student should feel as though he/she is not getting a first-rate tour of
the world of Mathematics while here. With the class sizes the way they
currently are, I am able to see the students on a more individual basis--not
a 'face in the crowd'. Feel free to e-mail me about anything concerning
your child. It is probably the fastest way to contact me here at school. I
check my mail here multiple times during the day.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
-Graphing calculator (or at least one that has the square, square root, sine
(SIN), cosine (COS) and tangent (TAN) functions)
-compass (I have some for class use, but you cannot take them home.)
-protractor (same directions as 'compass')
-graph paper (not much of it, though)
-a ring-binder notebook that is dedicated to just my class. There will be
notebook checks at the end of each trimester, so you will need to turn in
your book for a day or two.
-ruler (optional, but it sometimes helps)
