About The Teacher

I have been living and teaching in Lusaka Zambia for the last 12 years. I
taught music, theatre arts and psychology within the International
Baccalaureate system. I directed and produced all of our theatre productions
which included, South Pacific, The Wiz, Fiddler on the Roof, Pirates of
Penzance, Romeo Loves Juliet and Aladdin. My additional responsibilities at
the American International School of Lusaka included Areas of Interaction
Coordinator, which was an advisory and counseling role. I was also the
soprano soloist in symphony and jazz concerts as well as staring in several
musicals. While I have always taught middle and upper school I would have to
say my favorite realm is when I put groups and ages together to form more of
a community effort. I also love teaching at the AP/college level and I am so
excited to be able to take on the AP Psychology class here. We are moving
toward AP Music being offered in 2009! All higher-level classes I teach are
and will be offered at high school level as well, giving every student the
chance to succeed! In addition I was active in community theatre, music
society and community service. Prior to that my family lived in Michigan
where I was the Director of Music Ministries for a large church, piano,
flute, and voice teacher, and frequent soloist with the symphony orchestra.
Moving to Maryland has been an exciting and interesting change in my life.
It was difficult to leave the people that had become our “family” over the
last 12 years, but we took with us a lifetime experience, endless stories,
memories and lots of artifacts! So, if you are interested, set up a time to
see the “African museum” at our house. As is the African tradition, our door
is always open. The Calverton Community is fabulous and we have felt a very
warm welcome here. I say we, meaning myself and my 14-year-old Austin, who
is in the ninth grade. I also have a 19 year old, Evan, who just started
college as a music major in violin performance and composition. Both of my
boys are awesome and the joy of my life!

I look forward to working with you to build the best music program possible.
I am excited by all the talent in the school and more so by the interests of
students to grow and learn more about music and its role in society. My
specialty areas lie in choral conducting, voice, flute and piano.

Goals of the Music program

- To allow students to benefit from the opportunity to use music as a
representational art form
- To develop a sense of pride and respect in the music program
- To establish a music program that is comparable to other schools of
similar size
- To increase exposure and public relation of the school with a vibrant
music program
- To allow music excellence in such a way as to benefit college application,
placement and for some success in music careers
- To have a successful MS and US band and choir
