Homework

Homework is given every day, Monday through Thursday. Students are directed to write their assignments in their agenda book each day. If there is no homework in a certain subject area, students are directed to write "No Homework". Occasionally, students will need to complete work over the weekend. This could be necessary in order to finish incomplete work or to complete a long- term assignment. It is important for students to complete all homework on time and to TURN IT IN! Students who do not have an assignment on time will fill out a Homework Slip that must be signed and returned with the assignment in order to be accepted. Students are also expected to complete their homework with a MINIMUM of parent assistance. If your child is struggling to complete their homework, please do not wait to contact me and talk it over. We can work together to keep homework from becoming a nightmare!! Weekly Grammar and Spelling These assignments are given to students on Monday and include activities for each night of the week (Monday-Thursday). A test is given for both spelling and grammar on Friday. Students will be responsible for spelling and grammar homework even if there is a four day week. If the number of days off is more than one, it is likely that spelling and grammar will be replaced with other homework assignments for that week. Mathematics Math homework is assigned Monday through Thursday. Math homework could provide a review and practice of past skills or could be directly related to skills learned in class that day. Math facts should be practiced regularly. It is extremely important for students to use the study guides provided to prepare for unit tests. Vocabulary Students should study their vocabulary words regularly throughout the week in order to prepare for monthly vocabulary quizzes. Using index cards, students can make vocabulary word cards to use for study. Students are given at least a week notice before vocabulary quizzes are given so it is expected that they will study and prepare in order to earn satisfactory grades. Words are recorded in a class notebook so students who miss a word can easily catch up.
