Maryland Labor Laws & Work Permit

MARYLAND STATE LABOR LAWS:

ANSWER A COMMON QUESTION FROM MENTORS: Students CAN be
scheduled to work on days when schools are closed. However,
students cannot work more than 23 hours per week during when
school is in session for 5 days and no more than 8 hours per
day during a nonschool day.

WORK PERMIT:

1. Go to the "Teen" link.
2. READ ALL DIRECTIONS VERY CAREFULLY.
3. Print out and complete the form and get the required
information and signatures.
4. Now go back to the directions on the worksheet and read them
again very carefully. #4 on the worksheet (not #4 here) tells
you to go back on the website and enter the information from
the work sheet- the page with the signatures.
5. Print out the receipt.
6. Bring the receipt from #4 above, the signed form and
verification of status to Mrs. Yanis, the registrar. She will
do some more computer magic and give you a receipt to give to
your mentor.
