My Culture: Collage Activity and Presentation
This particular graded activity involves the examination of your own culture
and selecting picture representations for it. When creating your collage, you
need to consider three areas. One is your family culture such as rules,
traditions and customs. Another is to use the concept of national “American”
or United States culture that may include currency, government, language, etc.
Finally you may want to represent your cultural or ethnic background/
heritage and that may include religious customs, clothing styles, traditions
or foods. All three areas should be represented on your collage since you are
made up of all three. The best way to approach this is to go to each category
below and decide how to show it. For example there is a category called food,
now do you want to show it through an example of Family, American or heritage.
Go through the list and after deciding, collect pictures to represent that.
You can’t use a picture more than twice.
A collage is a collection of pictures that touch or overlap each other and
do not allow for the background paper to show through. The size of the
collage can vary. It is important to remember that the size or construction
characteristics are not as important as the information that your collage
depicts. YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO PRESENT YOUR COLLAGE TO THE CLASS!!!!
