Bonus Points and Extra Credit?
Bonus Points: (6th grade ONLY) Three brain-teaser-type questions are given each quarter in each class. They are printed and given to the students. They may get help from anyone and anywhere. Answers are expected in full, complete detail on notebook paper. They may (and are encouraged to) write multiple answers, if necessary, because getting the answer correct (or even if it may sound correct) will earn the student +2 points to his/her report card grade. At three questions per quarter, this could be an additional 6 points added. If the answer is incorrect, then the grade will increase by +1 point - PROVIDED I see ample effort and detail to show me their thought process in answering the question. Lack of detail, effort, explanation, etc. may result in no credit being given. Extra Credit: (6th and 7th grade) There is a sheet of 100 Famous People in my room. Take a sheet and select a person. Follow the directions on the front to write a small book report on this person(s). If all three sheets are turned in and done correctly, your report card grade goes up +1 point. You may do four (4) of these per quarter for a total of +4 possible points added. If you do not see the person(s) you would like to do, then consult me for permission. So, three bonus questions for a possible 6 points and four extra credits for a possible 4 points equals a chance at 10 points being added to the entire grade each quarter. And if you are wrong on the three questions, you still get 1 point, for a possible 7 points added per quarter. It's a very good deal that not many students are taking advantage of. For 7th grade, you may do five (5) reports per quarter for a possible +2 points per report added to your grade. Please see the extra credit page for more details and information on how to do a report.Back to Top
6th Science: Tests = 35% Clswk/Labs = 30% Projects = 25% Hmwk = 10% All work is based on 100 points (100%). 7th Reading: Tests/Quizzes/Projects = 35% Classwork = 30% Projects = 20% Homework = 15% A = 90 to 100 B = 80 to 89.4 C = 70 to 79.4 D = 60 to 69.4 E = 59.4 and below A, B, and C are passing grades. D and E are not. FOR 6th GRADE: For my class, it is entirely possible that no failing grade will ever stay in the computer. I allow any low/failed work to be redone for up tp 70% (minimum C) credit. Tests, projects, labs, classwork, homework...it all can be redone for the 70% credit, provided it is done in the following manner: Whenever I pass back any work that is below 70% (C), you may take it home, fix it, and return it THE NEXT CLASS for the 70% consideration. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT several days or weeks to take advantage of this. If you are serious about your work and keeping up your grade, you will fix it return it PROMPTLY. Work turned in on the second class late will only score one-half credit. If a test comes back with a failing grade, I will ask that it be taken home to be SIGNED BY A PARENT. The test will be turned in to me within five (5) days for a retake (there are typically four versions of each test). A different version of the test will be given to you for the possible 70% credit. That's it. Failing grades DO NOT NEED TO STAY IN THE COMPUTER - they can be fixed and reconsidered for the minimum C grade. This will guarantee a passing grade at all times. Redone or fixed work will rarely be accepted beyond the next class deadline; please do not try to make up several low scores during the last week of the quarter in an effort to raise your grade. Only under special circumstances will I allow very late redo work, and if I do, it will NOT be graded at the 70% limit. It will probably count only 50% at most. FOR 7th GRADE: Missing work can be turned in up to four (4) days late to receive up to 50% credit only. Failed work (below 70%) I will continue to allow to be taken home, fixed, and returned for up to 70% credit. Projects lose one letter grade per day late. Failed tests can be retaken as above. Please see the first question on Bonus/Extra Credit work for a way to add up to 10 points to your report card grade. This will be far more valuable in raising your grade if you have not done a lot of redo work.Back to Top
