7th Grade Portfolio

 
7th Grade Language Arts Portfolio:  Due Date: June 12
For extra credit turn in on June 11
Goals: You will introduce yourself as a writer, select and revise the best examples of your 7th grade 
Language Arts work and reflect on your growth as a reader and writer.
Your Language Arts Anthology must include the following entries:

1, Title Page: Title, Name, Group and Date.
2. Table of Contents: Includes the title of each language arts portfolio entry and the page number in 
which the paper appears in the portfolio.
3. Introduce the Author � YOU: Write 2 � 3 paragraphs (6-10 sentences each) about yourself as an 
author. Introduce yourself: include a description of your interests and best qualities. Also include 
what your favorite genre of literature is and explain why. Include your favorite type of writing and 
explain why. ( 3rd person )

4. TWO Samples of your best work from each of the following categories: Must include at least one 
revised book report.
Evidence of Reading Comprehension: Select two examples
 � Revised book review
� Test over a novel
� Book Quiz
� Other writing that shows an understanding of literature �lit logs
� Vocabulary questions
 Evidence of Writing and Research; Select two examples
 � Writing about a topic
� Editorial � letter to the editor
� Informational writing

� Pod cast script
� Essays � Compare/Contrast essay
 � Writing Prompt

� Baseball Paragraph
 Evidence of creative writing: Select two examples
 � Creative writing- new story endings?
� Poetry                                                                                 
� New character for Seedfolks
� Fairy Tales
 5. Content area writing: One selections from any other class that shows evidence of reading, writing 
or creativity.

6. Your Overall Best Piece: Select and revise your best overall language arts piece.

7. Closing Reflection: Write 2-3 paragraphs explaining why you chose these selections. Explain what 
each piece is about, Explain why you chose your Best Piece. Explain how you used the writing process 
this year. Include a self- evaluation of your growth as a reader and writer and what you will work on 
in the future. Include goals that you set for yourself for 8th grade. 

Portfolio Check list.
� Portfolio is neatly organized in a folder or small binder
� Portfolio has all required entries
� Have fun � be creative with the cover! 
� ON TIME

� Revisions should be typed.

You are expected to be working on your portfolio in class and as homework. Check your calendar for 
writing lab days. Use this schedule to help you plan your work:
� 6/9:  About the author and revised book review completed.
� 6/10 : Other reading and writing pieces selected and revised as needed.
� 6/11: Select creative writing, content area writing & best overall piece. Write your closing reflection, 
table of contents and put in folder or binder.
� Extra credit turn in : Wednesday 6/11       Due Date: Thursday 6/12

You may earn extra credit by including any of the following:
� Turn in early
� Movie reviews
� Additional poems
� Additional revised book reports
� Illustrations

Revising your book report - Five paragraph essay book reports:
All groups must revise an essay book report.
� Review your essay book report and make corrections in spelling and grammar.
� Look at comments on the book report � go back and add information to improve the quality of your 
book report. 
� Turn in the revised essay and the original essay.
