Spanish Club

The next Spanish Club meeting will be Wednesday, March 25, 2009.  As usual,
there wil be free burritos, enchiladas, and refrescos.

FIRST SPANISH CLUB MEETING OF THE 2008-2009 school year will be on 
Wednesday, September 17th in room 4.  Agenda:  Election of Officers, Safe-
Passage Project, Special Events for the Year, Fieldtrips...FREE Mexican food!

Welcome to the Spanish Club page!  The Biddeford Middle School Spanish Club 
is
one of the largest and most active clubs in the school.  We meet monthly and
always provide a variety of Mexican and/or Spanish-themed snacks (i.e.
burritos, enchiladas, taco chips, salsa, along with "refrescos" (beverages).
Srta. Brazier and I co-advise this club, and last year we successfull raised
nearly $1200. to sponsor two "Safe Passage" children who we will be
corresponding with this year.  Occasionally, we see films in Spanish (with
English subtitles!) and host several fundraising events ranging from selling
Guatemalan handicrafts, an annual in-school bakesale, and a school dance.

NOTE:  Our last Spanish Club meeting will be a belated "Cinco de Mayo"
celebration for 6th graders. This meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 3rd 
at 2:10p.m. in room 4.  We will see the Spanish movie "Dos Hermanos" and 
enjoy free burritos, enchiladas, and refrescos.  Thank you to all club 
members for their help in raising over $1,000. this year to benefit "Safe 
Passage" and the children of the Guatemala City Dump.  You have made an 
incredible difference for the two children we will be sponsoring!

Spanish Club met March 20, 2008  TOPIC:  Safe Passage Project fundraising: 
Biddeford Middle School will be sponsoring a Guatemalan boy and Girl next
year.  Cost for sponsorship: $600. per student or $1200. total.  We have
raised $1,035. thus far!

January 25, 2008: All school "Safe Passage" Assembly hosted by the BMS 
Spanish
Club

Come learn how "La Navidad" (Christmas) is celebrated in the Spanish-speaking
world!  We will be making "papel cortado" and make and sample food from
different Hispanic countries!  All this happens on Tuesday, December 18th 
from
2:20 to 3:20 in room 4!  ´!Hasta la fiesta! (See you at the party!)



Next Spanish Club meeting is Thursday, November 15th from 2:20p.m. to 
3:20p.m.
in room 4.  Our agenda is:

1) Discussion of January 25th Assembly:  "Safe Passage"
2) Second half of "Firehouse Dog" in Spanish
3) Nachos!
4) Free BMS Spanish T-shirts for those who have attended three meetings!

Next Spanish Club meeting:  Monday, October 22nd room 4!    We will be 
showing the film "Firehouse Dog" in Spanish with ENGLISH SUBTITLES!  We will 
also be serving FREE burritos and refrescos!   Time: 2:20-3:20p.m.  New 
members are welcome!  Here is your chance to "hang" with your friends, see a 
movie, enjoy some Mexican food, and learn some new words in Spanish!  Hasta

ADELANTE!  The FIRST meeting of the SPANISH CLUB for the 2007-2008 school 
year will take place on THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4th at 2:20 in room 004.  We will 
elect officers and make plans for the year.  Mexican nachos and salsa will 
be served!  Hope to see you there!

YEARBOOK PICTURE will be taken!  Also we will be making final plans for

Thanks to all the student, parents, and faculty chaperones who helped out at
the February 9th Foreign Language Dance!  We netted a profit of nearly $400
that will be used for foreign language French and Spanish) cooking projects
and fieldtrips.  There was a great turnout and everyone has "dance fever" 
even
Mr. McGovern, Mme. Fecteau, Srta. Brazier, and Sr. Sferes!  Thanks, too, to
the BMS Student Council and Ms. Bruce for hosting the snack bar concession,
and to Mrs. Gobeil, Mrs. Harrison, and Mr. Kiesel for their willingness to
chaperone.



Don't forget that the next BMS Dance is Friday, February 9th and is 
sponsored by the Spanish and French student.  Proceeds will benefit future 
fieldtrips.


Next meeting of the BMS Spanish Club will be on Thursday, January 25th from
2:20-3:20p.m. in room 4.  Agenda:  Sponsorship of Dance (February 16th) and
"Principal for a Day" Raffle.

SPANISH CLUB MINUTES   10/17/06

2:20p.m. Snacks/Meeting began


2:30p.m. We decided that the next meeting will include a mini Mexican fiesta
with nachos topped with melted cheese and soft drinks.  We are hoping that
this will bring in additional members.

2:45p.m. We discussed several ideas for community service projects including
tutoring Spanish-speaking students in grades K-5.

2:55p.m. We decided to update Spanish Club posters around the school with the
time and place of our next meeting (WED. NOV 1ST, 2:20 IN ROOM 004)  and
information about our mini-Mexican fiesta.

3:00-3:20p.m. We made a new poster....meeting adjourned at 3:20p.m.

The first meeting of our new BMS Spanish Club will take place on Tuesday,

17th in room 004 (Senor Sferes).  We will be setting up goals for the year 
including sponsorship of a dance to provide funding for Spanish-related 
fieldtrips and for our annual "Cinco de Mayo: celebration with our email 
penpals at Kennebunk Middle School.  You can help by attending this first 
meeting!  Hasta el diez y siete de octubre!



HELP!!!!  IN ORDER TO PLAN OUR "CINCO DE MAYO" CELEBRATION WITH KENNNBUNK 
MIDDLE SCHOOL (THIS YEAR, THE EVENT WILL BE HELD AT THE NEW BMS!), OUR TRIP 
TO HISPANIC NEW YORK CITY, AND VARIOUS OTHER FIELDT RIPS AND SPECIAL EVENTS, 
SRTA. BRAZIER AND I WILL NEED YOUR HELP.  THEREFORE, WE WILL BE TALKING TO 
YOU ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF STARTING A BMS SPANISH CLUB THAT WOULD SERVE AS 
A PLANNING COMMITTEE TO ASSIST US.  INTERESTED?  JUST TALK TO EITHER SR. 
SFERES OR SRTA. BRAZIER.  GRACIAS!
