Good afternoon,
Two more days until vacation!
The Citizens of the Week are Helen and Annir.
The Good Sports of the Week are Drew and Nico.
There is no hw club this week.
Friday Folders went home today. Please send them back by Tuesday.
In math, students are working on a artistic project connecting math, art, and
geography. Students may choose to finish up over break. It is not homework
but enrichment of the geometry unit.
In reading, students will be sharing book projects on Monday and reading some
nonfiction material about Thanksgiving practicing highlighting, marking the
text, and other features of nonfiction reading.
In writing, we will be sharing our stories during an author chair on Monday.
In science, we will be looking at how wind shapes landforms.
Tuesday is our classroom cash store in the afternoon.
This week in Spanish, we completed our unit on the days of the week, and began
learning some adjectives. Students have a new vocabulary handout, which
should be on top of their Spanish binders. As a homework assignment, students
were to illustrate each adjective on their handout (in the blank spot provided
beside each word). This weekend, and over the course of Thanksgiving break,
students should practice the new words, first by folding away the English,
reading the Spanish aloud and associating it with the picture they have drawn,
and then by folding away their pictures, reading the Spanish aloud and trying
to recall their picture. Ultimately, students should be able to look at their
pictures and provide the appropriate Spanish word. In the two days before
break, we will practice recognizing the new vocabulary through several group
games and communicative activities, and in the week following break we will
begin to work with the verb ser (to be), combined with our adjectives, to
describe ourselves and others. Students should see me to schedule any
make-ups or extra practice next week, as we don't have school on Wednesday
(our regular Spanish catch-up day). Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
