Only two more weeks before Thanksgiving! We will be wrapping up many units
this week and will have a few assessments in math and reading.
Friday we went over the guidelines and expectations for our classroom cash
store. If you have any questions let us know.
Homework club will be Tuesday and Thursday.
The Citizens of the Week are Megan and Ryan.
The Good Sports of the week are Ally and Connor.
In math this week we will be finishing our work on Geometry. This week
students will be learning about polygons and the relationships between sides
and the amount of degrees in a polygon. Students will have a test on Thursday.
Friday we will begin a hands on geometry project tying together geography,
map making, and geometry concepts and skills.
In Science we will look at the abrasion of rocks and how glaciers shape the land.
In reading this week we will be finishing the book Windcatcher. We will have
some sort of writing wrap up towards the end of the week. Students will be
working on responding to a question using evidence from the story. There is
no reading log due this week. Students should be working on their book
project all week. Project guidelines are on the web under our handouts
section. If they are done they should free read each night.
In writing students will be finishing up their final drafts of their stories.
Mrs. Walsh's class will be working on chapter 4 of Wordly Wise.

Last week students continued to practice animal and preposition vocabulary.
Ask your child to sing the preposition song for you. They will use their
hands to show each preposition. Students began to create their own sentences
and illustrated them. We put them on the board and shared them with the
class. On Friday we played téléphone with their sentences.
Next week and before Thanksgiving break we will review body parts in French
and practice writing the words.
Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns or comments. I am
available before and after school most days by appointment.

During this short week in Spanish, we began learning the days of the week by
singing them, and taking part in a couple of cooperative challenges designed
to have students hear and say the days, in and out of order. Over the
weekend, fifth graders should say the days, out loud, three times a day.
Students may use references (a vocabulary handout will be found in Spanish
binders), but should work toward saying the days without a reference. At the
start of classes from now on students will answer the question ¿Qué día es?
(What day is it?). Next week we will progress into the next unit on using
adjectives with the verb ser to describe ourselves and others. Students are
always welcome to stay after school with me on Wednesdays for extra practice
or make-ups.
