Week in Preview
Sept. 8th-12th
Thursday, Sept. 11th is the 7th grade Open House from 6:00-7:30. Please begin
in your child’s Homeroom! Please make sure that you know who his/her homeroom
teacher is. Ask your child what number the room is and where it is. You will
be visiting each of his/her teachers in a 15 minute rotation. At 7:30 there
will be a meeting in the cafeteria for Laptops and laptop insurance. It is
only after parents attend this meeting that the student may take his/her
laptop home.
Friday, Sept. 12th is the 7th grade Field trip which includes team building
activities at Fort Williams Park and a Casco Bay Cruise with a guided tour of
important landmarks. A permission slip will be going home on Friday.
Wed. Sept. 10th is FMS Picture Day. Students should have received an
information pack to sign up for purchase of photos.
QUEBEC-All interested 7th graders and their parents are welcome to join us for
an informational presentation Wednesday, October 15 at 7pm in the Middle
School cafeteria. The trip will be May 14-17, 2009.
Le Français Mme Turner after school: Wed. & Thurs.
We will continue this week to work on interrogatives, which get the students
speaking and drawing on their prior knowledge. We have started with “Que”,
(what) and reviewed classroom objects. We will focus on “Qui” (who) this week
and possibly “Où” (where). There will be a quiz on the alphabet and accents.
Social Studies
Mr. Fox, Mr. Stein and Mr. Perlman
After school : by appointment
This week we will be looking into the reasons for various types of
governments. The strengths and weaknesses will be discussed. Students will
also have to rationalize the benefits of having a government. As the
presidential election heats up, it would be great if parents and students had
frequent conversations about the role of government. From government we will
shift to the role of "culture" in shaping societies. The week will culminate
with the 7th grade field trip with a historic tour of Casco Bay. Students will
complete a scavenger hunt during this trip. We look forward to seeing you at
open house.
Science: Ms. Boudreau
After school: Tuesday & Wednesday
Students will create size and distance models to compare the earth, moon and
mars. They will complete their science skills labs and take a planet walk if
the weather permits. If all goes well we may even start our study of seasons.
Students were given moon logs and should be attempting moon observations.
Don't panic! They have until the 19th to get their 10 and if the weather is
exceptionally poor I may extend the deadline. Be sure to review the directions
with your child to make sure the assignment is completed correctly.
Espagnol Sr. Profenno after school Wed. & Thurs.
We will start off next week with a quiz over the map of Spain, cities, rivers,
mountains, etc. Then we'll be continuing with the verb "Ser" along with the
subject pronouns, Yo, tu, el, ella and adjectives. We'll also be reviewing
the numbers up to 100 as well as classroom objects. Thanks and have a great
weekend.

This coming week in ELA students will finish and share their Inkblot
creative writing pieces. We will continue working with imagery as we
transition into our Poetry unit by writing Autumnal Acrostic poems, both
collaboratively and independently. Over the weekend, students should continue
looking for an independent reading book within the fiction genre.
Have a great weekend!
