Welcome to our Week in Preview:
Week Starting 12/21
Break starts Tuesday 12/22 Have a wonderful break!
Holiday Party 12/22!
Being that it is a 2 day week, not much is happening. Monday Writing is
continuing as kids work on their final pieces. There is a Math Test and
conversations will be had in reading and social studies. There is also a
Spelling Bee happening in the class. Ask the kids who the winner was.
Tuesday is all fun! There will be a morning brunch, some fun activities and
then a movie. It's all good at school! Have a wonderful break and I hope to
see the kids on the other side of it! Mrs. Wong
ELA: The kids are reading a new chapter book called Letters From Rifka. It's
about a family of Russian immigrants. We are reading the book to complement
an Immigration unit we are working on in Social Studies.
In writing we are working on a personal narrative unit. Kids will be copying
over their final versions to get ready for publishing and sharing with the
class.
Math: The kids will take a test on Monday. Christine Dalzell has been
working with small groups to make sure kids are ready for the test. If any
make up work needs to be done, I can hold reviews after break. We wanted to
get the test in before break, so we don't have lots of break forgetting.
Social Studies: We are starting a unit on Immigration. Kids are learning
about the different push and pull factors that effect immigrants from past to
present. They will explore picture books to find trends in different
immigration experiences. This week, kids will also be participating in a
Geography Bee in the classroom. The top winner will go on to the school Bee!

This week in Spanish, students worked toward memorizing the singular forms of
the verb ser (to be), by learning a chant/song and participating in a puzzle
building activity. We began to work on constructing sentences, orally and in
writing, using the verb with adjectives. Students also created
positive-message posters for the school hallways using what we have practiced.
Over the weekend, students will have a short translation exercise to complete
(in writing). These may be turned in on Friday (12/18) or Monday (12/21).
When we return from winter break, we will begin learning to describe the
weather, and will look at the weather in several Spanish-speaking cities
around the world. Beginning the week of January 4, the day for Spanish
after-school help will be Tuesdays. Students should feel free to drop in for
extra practice, or to make up assessments. ¡Gracias!

Last week students shared their ogre illustrations and sentences and had a
listening assessment on Wednesday with animals, colors, numbers and
prepositions. We began to work on objects in the classroom.
Next week we will continue our unit focusing on objects found in the classroom
and working more with colors.
